Professor Hou Renzhi, the eminent geographic historian from Beijing University, will speak about the historical development of city planning in two capital cities, Beijing and Washington D.C., with special emphasis on the principles of designing the central city cores. The presentation will be illustrated with slides. Professor Hou, who has been a guest speaker of BIS on several previous occasions, has recently written an article on this subject in preparation for the August 1990 meeting in Beijing of the International Geographic Unions’ Asia-Pacific Area Committee.
