Prof. Ouyang Zhongshan, Calligrapher and Teacher

Romanian Embassy

Chinese ideography, developed from pictography, offers artists immense scope for creating works of art with profound philosophical meaning. The way in which a calligrapher conducts a brush over the paper – flowing now with big, bold strokes, now with delicate, carefully drawn lines – demonstrates a kind of skill that can only be attained after years of practice, a skill which also allows the artist to express a state of mind, an attitude, and even emotions like love, sorrow or hope. Three well-known Chinese calligraphers will demonstrate their skill, will introduce us to their art and help us understand its development.
