Pia MacRae who is the country director of Save the Children will speak to our BIS audience on child health, education and protection in China. In her talk, Ms. MacRae will focus particularly on the implications of China's floating population on the childhood experience. Ms. MacRae will explain the challenges in ensuring that no child gets left behind, literally (as in the case of the many millions of children left by their parents, seeking work), or metaphorically as the socio-economic and aspiration gaps grow between different groups of children.

Before joining Save the Children in China in December 2011, Pia was the CEO of THET, a London based international NGO specializing in health. Earlier in her career, Pia spent a decade working with BP, including heading up BP's Corporate Responsibility practice in China. She has a background in policy work and social impact management, as well as working on volunteering programmes and in journalism.

Pia got her undergraduate degree from Oxford University, and a Master's degree from London University. As part of her master's degree, she studied at Sichuan University on a British Council scholarship.

Pia lives and works in Beijing, with her two children and her husband.
