Feng Shui

Yu Xixian, Professor, Department of Geography (Urban and Environmental Science), Beijing University

New Zealand Embassy

Literally translated as ‘wind-water', Feng Shui is the Chinese art of placement as a way to pursue the most harmonious and auspicious place in which to live and work. Feng Shui is a cross between an art and a science, and it reminds us of the subtle, invisible flow of energy in all life forms. Its origin dates back thousands of years to the beginning of Chinese civilization. Nowadays, it has a profound influence in Asia. Mr. Yu Xixian, Professor of the Department of Geography (Urban and Environmental Science) at Beijing University, will speak to BIS members on this ancient Chinese practice. In particular, Mr. Yu will emphasize the impact of Feng Shui on interior design and the proper placement of furniture in households and offices.
