Nicholas Bonner has visited North Korea almost every month since 1993. He will talk about his experience in the hermit kingdom - illustrated with clips from his documentaries.
He has produced three award-winning documentaries, BBC radio shows, and various photographic books on the country. His Beijing-based company, Koryo Tours, has seen the number of western tourists visiting North Korea rise from 300 to over 2000 per year.
Nicholas’ most recent documentary is Crossing the Line about US soldiers who defected to North Korea in the 1960’s, one of whom still lives in Pyongyang (2006). A State of Mind (2005), about the Mass Games, gives insights into family life in Pyongyang. The Game of Their Lives (2001) tells the story of the North Korean World Cup team of 1966. Nicholas organized the return of the surviving members of the team to the UK in October 2002. Over 100,000 British football fans turned out to welcome the players.
He is currently working on a feature film - a romantic comedy in North Korea with Korean script, actors and crew.
Nicholas is International coordinator of the Pyongyang International Film Festival.
