Lecture and Slides: "Père David Deer in China"

Maja Boyd, Zoologist

Turkish Embassy

Conservationists are hoping to establish a herd of about 50 Père David deer in China under a scheme funded by the People's Trust for Endangered Species. But first a suitable location must be found for their release and that is why Maja Boyd, an Oxford zoologist who has been studying the deer since 1977, flew to China in March this year to confer with her Chinese colleagues. When their feasibility study is complete, it is hoped that the first herd of animals will be airlifted to China by British Airways.
