Novelist Lao She

Mr. Wang Xingzhi, vice-president of the China Lao She Research Society and a member of the Literature Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, will give a talk on the novelist Lao She and his relationship to the city of Beijing. Among Lao She's best known works are the novel, Rickshaw and the play Teahouse. Lao She is famous for his vividly detailed descriptions of Beijing and the lives of ordinary Beijingers in the early part of this century. Wang Xingzhi, who knew Lao She in the 1960s, is a close friend of the family and is writing a biography of Lao She. To make the evening doubly memorable, the talk will take place in the beautiful garden of the Swiss Embassy.
