Dealer and Chinese furniture connoisseur
Join classical Chinese furniture connoisseur Nicholas Grindley on a tour of the Guanfu Museum which houses an extensive collection of fine examples of Ming and Qing dynasty furniture as well as a fine collection of ceramics covering the Song to Qing dynasties. Originally located in Liulichang, the Guanfu Museum was China's first privately-owned museum, founded in 1997 by self-taught scholar and antiquities expert, Ma Weidu.
For over 35 years, Nicholas Grindley has been a private dealer and researcher of Chinese art with particular interest in furniture and scholar's objects. Since 1998 he has published two catalogues per year, and exhibited in London, New York and Hong Kong; many works from these exhibitions are in museums and private collections throughout the world.
Mr. Grindley contributed to the catalogue of the Mimi and Raymond Hung Collection of Chinese Furniture (1996) and co-wrote with Robert Jacobsen the catalogue of Classical Chinese Furniture in the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (1999). He also contributed the entry for Chinese Furniture for The Seventy Wonders of China, published by Thames & Hudson (2007). Mr. Grindley continues to deal privately in New York and Beijing.
