Outing: Jie Tai Si

Jie Tai Si, some 40 km from Beijing in the beautiful Western Hills, takes its name from its marble period ordination altar. First built in the Tang dynasty, the temple also contains a Liao dynasty stupa and a Jin dynasty stele. The temple was extensively restored during the Ming and Qing periods. Texts of Buddhist sutras cover the stone pillars, and in the Hall of a Thousand Buddhas, finely carved Buddha images have been preserved. An expert guide will give us the background to the relevant aspects of Buddhism.
