Tour: Qing Xiling, Western Qing Tombs

Caroline Dexter

In 1730 the Yongzheng emperor began construction of his tomb at a site of great natural beauty, approximately 100 km southwest of Beijing. Over a period of 185 years the tombs of four emperors, including the ill-fated Guang Xu emperor, three empresses, and other members of the Imperial Family were buried there. Less well known than the Eastern Qing tombs, these well preserved tombs have only recently been opened to the public.
