Traditional Chinese Finger Painting

Li Bingqi

Embassy of Mexico

Traditionally, for thousands of years, Chinese paintings have been done with a brush but Li Bingqi uses his fingers. He was not the first to do this. Finger painting originated with Gao Qipei, who lived in the early years of the Qing Dynasty and it later developed into minor art. The best known finger painter after Gao was Pan Tianshou (1898-1971); now Li Bingqi has raised this art to new heights.

The exhibition will open on Thursday 7th March at 7:30pm. Mr. Li will give a talk with simultaneous translation into English. Following the talk he will give a demonstration of his technique.
