Last month, American and Asian audiences were riveted to the Discovery Channel for an extraordinary film on the Forbidden City. Now this documentary special comes home to Beijing. "Forbidden City" recreates for the first time the life and history of the Imperial Palace. In honour of the Palace Museum's 70th anniversary, producers were given unprecedented access to Gugong's 240 acres of palaces, temples, gardens, schools, theatres and residences, as well as its historical archives. Focusing on the last 150 years of imperial rule, "Forbidden City" seeks to capture the mystique and the highly ceremonial daily routine of palace life.
